The Location

The Davenport stud is situated in the Pearston district near Graaff-Reinet in the Eastern Karoo, South Africa. This calcium rich area with internationally approved underground water forms the ideal situation for a horse stud. The stud is located on Libertas Trust ground consisting of 10,000 hectares of the finest Karoo veldt surrounded by an amphitheatre of mountains with summer rain, winter frost and almost disease free. The veldt is mixed Karoo consisting of a variety of grasses, bushes and trees each with its own unique amount of minerals, vitamins and proteins making it recognizably the best livestock area in South Africa.

The Enviroment

The home bred mares of the Davenport Stud are mostly 2nd bred generation, having excellent pedigrees of proven bloodlines, some of the best in South Africa that have produced many international show jumpers. Our young horses grow up in huge camps the biggest being 500 hectares and people often remark that they have to go on a game drive through kudu, blesbuck, wildebeest, impala, gemsbuck and springbuck to at last see what they came to see - the horses!!

The Food

The lucerne we feed is home grown on our farm in Graaff-Reinet which is irrigated with underground water and the pellets we feed are from Cradock, all karoo grown with the same calcium soil which further enhances the essential minerals, vitamins and proteins needed to grow strong bones and feet which our horses are known for.
