YOUNG HORSE PERFORMANCE SERIES 1ST LEG 21ST MARCH 2009

On Saturday 21st March 2009, Pretoria Equestrian Centre was a hub of activity with the start of the 2009 Young Horse Performance Series. The venue looked spectacular after the wonderful rain we have experienced over the past few months. A thunderstorm on Friday afternoon did not affect the superb condition of the grounds, and thus the horses in this series were competing under most favorable conditions.

    Burlington Show

    7th & 8th February 2009

It would appear that February is the month when most competitive show jumpers have managed to get themselves and their horses ‘back in shape’ and ready to compete. This show attracted huge entries and the organizers accommodated all by starting a day earlier (Friday 6th February).

As was the case with the GHS Novice Festival held at the end of January 2009, there were some exciting young horses to be seen.

    YOUNG HORSE PERFORMANCE SERIES

    YHPS

    2007/2008

The South African Young Horse Performance Series enters its fourth competitive year in 2009.This series has grown from being the ‘dream’ of two enthusiastic riders (who both have bred foals from mares they competed in the Open classes – hence they became breeders) and a steady financial whiz (a dedicated mom who has two very determined and competitive daughters) to the richest series on the Showjumping calendar in South Africa.

    YHPS 2008 - 1ST LEG

    Posted: Monday, April 7th, 2008

    YHPS

The 2008 Young Horse Performance Series started on the 15th March 2008 at Pretoria Equestrian Centre. Thursday evening a cloud burst of 70ml left the arenas a little waterlogged but thankfully the rains held off and a very successful show was held. Local and imported Warmbloods as well as some rather special Thoroughbreds competed for the much sought after titles.

    The Late Remus D

    Posted: Sunday, March 9th, 2008

Tribute to a wonderful horse by Sue (PEC)

Dominique Steyn saw Remus D on a stud farm in Natal a number of years ago. He was a strapping young grey gelding by Rex Grannus Z out of a Landjunker mare Latin Walk.

In spite of the fact that his pedigree indicated a strong willed character she fell in love with him and decided she had to have him. He moved beautifully and was definitely the ringleader of all the youngsters in the field.

    YHPS - Final

    Posted: Friday, November 16th, 2007

    YHPS

On Saturday 8th September the YHPS Final was held at Pretoria Equestrian Centre.
The prize money, sponsored by HSB Investments totaled R16 000.00 and all the winners received beautiful trophies sculpted by the artist Arend Eloff.
Ria v.d.Erwe has been our wonderful show jumping judge from the inception of this series.
She only missed the 4th leg at Glenfox as her little daughter Clarisse was only one day old! David Stubbs and Tony Lewis judged the Potential Show jumper section.
A real privilege to have these extremely knowlegable gentlemen give of their time to encourage and promote the series.

    Promoting SA Breeders

Gail Foxcroft and Sue van der Merwe initiated the above series in 2005. The main aim of the series was to promote our SA Breeders and give them a showcase for their horses. In Europe and the United States this is a very prestigious event.

    Easter Show 2007

    Posted: Saturday, April 7th, 2007

The Transvaal Horse Society attracted some 5 000 entries to the show this year. The show runs over ten days and caters for all disciplines and all ages.

    Horses for Courses

Heiko Wahlers designed the courses for the higher grades. This is the third time he has come out to design courses in South Africa. His tracks rode well. He builds square oxers and tall verticals. Many of his lines could be ridden either on a forward stride or more collected on an extra stride, both riding well. It was interesting to note that he makes optimum use of his arena. Wherever the spectators sat they had a good view of the courses.

DC and Open Festival (24/25 Feb)

    Posted: Sunday, February 25th, 2007

    Stubbs Arena

The open classes were held in the Stubbs Arena (North Arena) and the courses were designed by Eric Bianchi. The tracks were fair but demanded concentration from both horse and rider as is to be expected from the Open grades. There were roughly 80 entries between the 1.25m and 1.30m classes. There were not many clear rounds but also no major upsets.

    Horses at the Show

    Power Puff
A grey pony by Davenport Pyrmont 11 out of a welsh pony mare, ridden by Anre Diedericks.
This was their first show and Power Puff jumped two beautiful clear rounds.
She took no notice of the jump fillers or the general excitement that goes with a “first” show.
She loaded into the PEC truck with ease and travelled like a champ.
This bodes well for her future as a top childrens pony.
